How We Work

We get to know the person.

Interests, strengths, personality, preferences, and goals all matter.

We look for the right fit.

Caregivers are chosen with the individual in mind and not simply because someone is available.

We value consistency.

When a relationship is working well for everyone, familiarity and trust have the opportunity to grow.

We support participation, not just supervision.

The goal isn't simply to keep someone occupied. It's to create opportunities to experience, explore, connect, learn, and enjoy.

We support the whole family.

Respite should make life a little more manageable for caregivers while creating meaningful experiences for the person receiving support.

Why Unique Respite Services Exists

For about ten years, I worked in respite settings across the GTA and kept seeing the same gap. I believed respite could be more than a service that simply gave families a break.

It could create opportunities for connection, independence, growth and enjoying life with someone who understands you. And because respite is such an intimate form of support, the relationship matters.

Seven years ago, I decided to create the kind of respite service I wished existed.

That became Unique Respite Services.

Today, we have a growing client base across Toronto, and we continue to build support around the people and families we have the privilege of working with.
